Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Walter Shroyer now lives near Bluefield, Virginia where he teaches art at Bluefield College. He currently is working on a series of small ceramic landscapes inspired by hiking the Appalachian Trail. These pieces focus on the fragile environment we live in and encourage the viewer to become more aware of the beauty of nature. From dense forests to rocky alpines they become reflections and memories of places found along the trail. Shroyer works in stoneware clay and fires his pieces in a reduction kiln to 2300 degrees.
